Shaina and I went to the same high school and so when she reached out to me about capturing her maternity and newborn photos, I was elated! It is such an honor to have support throughout my life from people who love my art and my personality! Plus, I got the opportunity to shoot an amazing couple and capture those memories as their family grows.

A sunset maternity session in West Virginia

Shaina and Mickey’s sunset maternity session turned out absolutely gorgeous! We took a stroll to get these photos, and the lighting was just perfect. The foliage and the path worked as a cute backdrop. Family strolls will look a little different around here soon! They are so excited to be welcoming their baby boy.

Maternity session outfit inspiration

Shaina wore the most beautiful dress for her session! She chose a cream dress with blue flowers and bell sleeves. When it comes to picking the perfect outfit for your maternity session, I have a few tips!

Most of my mothers chose to wear a dress since you can get some beautiful movement, all while being comfortable! I suggest a dress or skirt that flares out just above the belly. This way you can showcase your sweet baby bump!

When it comes to colors, I suggest a neutral color or a soft pattern. This will allow your photos to be timeless instead of tied to any trends. Soft patterns are nice as well, but make sure it’s not too bright or large.

Also, make sure you and your partner coordinate! You don’t have to match exactly, but pick outfits that complement each other. For their session, Mickey chose a soft blue button-down and khakis, which tied in perfectly with the soft blue of Shaina’s dress.

Shooting maternity sessions like this are so much fun, I love watching my couples move into the next chapter of their life as their family grows! It’s always fun to watch things come full circle when I then get the opportunity to shoot the newborn sessions as well.
