Fall is the perfect time for family photos! As the leaves change, you get the most gorgeous colors in the backdrop, and the cooler weather lets you cuddle up in comfy sweaters and fun boots. When selecting outfits, I recommend keeping the colors coordinated. This can be with common colors or even some complimenting shades. Everyone does not have to match perfectly. In fact, it is better when everyone compliments each other!

The Nesselroad family chose outfits in green and brown, which coordinated so well. Momma wore a brown leather jacket, and their daughter matched with a brown cheetah vest (how fun!). The boys wore green shirts and jeans. And, of course, their sweet dog also joined the session. I love it when families bring their pets! I always let my clients know that pets are encouraged, just have someone on hand to take care of them in between shots. That way you can focus on the shoot.

I don’t just do all “look at the camera and smile”. As your photographer I want to make your session fun – To document the giggles and to simple document family! When shooting my families, I do some posing, but also focus on letting the kids be kids. That means if they want to run around a little, play with the leaves, or even tackle dad, I let them! This lets me capture your family in the most perfect moment – when you are all comfortable and being yourself. The best pictures happen when the kids can just be themselves and have fun exploring. Especially during fall family sessions!

I also make sure to get a few parent portraits. So often, the shoot is focused on the kids, so I always want to make sure my families get some parent portraits to keep! These always become so treasured. Family sessions are always so sweet and fun to shoot. I love getting to watch kids enjoy themselves and see how families interact with each other.
